Should you reserve the name now?

Definitely YES. Once registered, you will own the domain name and no one else in the world will be able to get it. No matter who you end up deciding to host you website, you will be the owner of the Domain Name and only you be able to use it. 
 

International domain names

International domain names with extensions such as .com, .net and .org are issued by a central organisation called InterNIC. 
     It is possible to pay up to 10 years at once and thus simplify the administration and protect the rights for the domain name. However, paying more than 1 year doesn't cause any price reduction.
 

National domain names

Country specific domain names with extension such as .es (Spain), .dk (Denmark) etc., are issued by local organisations.
Some countries are very restrictive with the domain names.
National domain names are priced depending on the country.
 

Other domain names

Some countries require the company applying for the domain name to be resident in that country. Other countries allow any applicant, for example .nu (Niue) or .cc (Cocos Islands).
Prices of such domain names vary very much.
